Island Park
St. Christopher’s Sixth Grade
students journeyed off to Island Park to learn the history of the Park and the
Erie Canal. Mr. Joe Lettieri, Superintendent of the Ellicott Creek Park
Complex, taught us about the tree farm and the wildflower area. He discussed
the water chestnut plants, an invasive species that is clogging parts of the
creek, and the plans they have to get rid of it. Students got involved with
litter clean up, raking, painting two large flower pots, and adding some pretty
flowers to place at the end of the bridge. The Sixth Grade would like to thank
all parent chaperones and Mr. Litttieri for taking time to spend with us. If we
all work together, we can keep our parks clean and beautiful!
